Curfew continues in Baramulla town in north Kashmir
Baramulla, Oct 27: Indefinite curfew continued in the town and its adjoining areas since yesterday afternoon, official sources said. However, the district administration claimed that curfew has been lifted this morning.
Official sources said a large number of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and state police personnel remained deployed in the old town and other areas in the town, strictly implementing the curfew restrictions.
People alleged that they were not being allowed to come out of their houses since yesterday when the curfew was imposed after the death of a student and injuries to 12 others in CRPF and police firing and teargassing.
They said announcements of imposition of curfew were made through public address system by the security forces yesterday. However, no relaxation was given so far, people said.
Security forces opened fire yesterday to disperse ''pro freedom'' processionists, who were protesting against the arrest of five youths and alleged damage to window panes by security forces on Friday night after the town observed strike on a call given by the Coordination Committee (CC),spearheading the agitation in the valley.
The civil administration and police said curfew has been lifted in the town this morning. However, the residents said they were not being allowed to purchase essentials, including milk and bread by the security forces deployed in the town.
