AIWWF demands action to stop bonded labour
Hyderabad, Oct 27 (UNI) The All India Working Women Forum (AIWWF) today urged the Andhra Pradesh Government to immediately take steps to stop the practice of bonded labour by a private company in the neighbouring Medak District.
Addressing a press conference here, All India Trade Union Congress-affiliated AIWWF President B V Vijayalakshmi, after visiting the mill for first hand information, alleged that over 300 children were kept captive by the private spinning mill in Sadaqshivapet and made to work as bonded labour.
Girl children, from the tender age of 10 years, were made to work for a paltry Rs 1,300, with Rs 1,000 deducted towards their food.
Medical expenses incurred on them were also deducted from their so-called wages, she claimed, adding that if they expressed desire to leave the mill, they were denied food.
She demanded stringent action against the management and provision of compensation to the girls and facilities for continuing education.
