It's for Centre to react : MK says on lifting ban from LTTE

Chennai, Oct 26 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said it was for the Centre to take a decision on lifting the ban on the outlawed Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Replying to a query that the banned LTTE Chief Prabhakaran had urged India to lift the ban on the outfit, Mr Karunanidhi said it was for the Centre to take a decision.

Mr karunanidhi was talking to mediapersons after a nearly 90-minute long meeting with External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who airdashed to the city at the instance of AICC President Sonia Gandhi after his meeting with Sri Lankan Envoy Basil Rajapakse at New Delhi earlier in the day.

''I cannot comment on it. It was for the Centre to take a decision'', he said.

The Ban on the LTTE was imposed a few years ago after the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991.
