DMK Govt planning to arrest me: Jaya
Chennai, Oct 26 (UNI) All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam AIADMK) General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today alleged that the DMK Government in Tamil Nadu was planning to arrest her, after her demand to arrest Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for his 'open support to the banned LTTE.' In a statement here tonight, she said she had credible information that Mr Karunanidhi had directed police officers to arrest her.
When the police officials said prima facie there was no case to arrest her, Ms Jayalalithaa, quoting her sources said, the Chief Minister insisted she had to be arrested and put behind the bars.
As Mr Karunanidhi stuck to his stand and left the meeting in a huff, the police officials were now finding reasons to arrest her, she added.
Mr Karunanidhi was angry with her as she had asked the Centre to arrest him and dissolve his Government for allegedly supporting the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.' She said while the Tamil Nadu Government arrested MDMK Leaders Vaiko and M Kannappan and Directors Seeman and Amir, some important persons like Directors Bharatiraja and Ramanarayan, VCK leader Thol Tirumavalan who had also committed the same crime, had not yet been arrested.
Even, Mr Karunanidhi had committed the same crime, she alleged.
Elaborating, she said he had written condolence poems in the memory of LTTE leaders like Anton Balasingham and Tamil Selvan and even had them released through the government's Information and Publicity Department.
Pointing out this went against India's soveriegnty and the Constitution, she had urged the Centre to arrest Mr Karunanidhi and dismiss his goverment.
Incensed at this, Mr Karunanidhi, in turn, held a meeting with senior police officials and directed them to arrest her, saying she had credible information on this.
Stating, she too, had served the State for nearly ten years as the chief minister holding the Home Department portfolio, she said she had people who conveyed this information.
Ms Jayalalithaa said the move for her arrest was not justifiable and borne out of political vendetta, she said only the people have to give a verdict on this as the ruling DMK had allowed people indulging in anti-social acts and posing a threat to Indian sovereignty to move freely in the State.
She alleged the Chief Minister was initiating action against people who were pointing out to the shortcomings of the administration instead of taking action against the perpetrators of crime and anti-socials.
