Chikungunya detected in Hooghly district

Hooghly, Oct 26: Altogether three blocks of this district - Singur, Chanditala and Khanakul - have come under the grip of Chikungunya disease.

District Chief Medical Officer of Health Vushan Chakraborty here today said several people of the district were suffering from fever and flu symptoms following which their blood samples were sent for tests.

The test results confirmed that 11 patients in the three blocks had been suffering from Chikungunya. However, there was no report of any death from the disease so far.

Meanwhile, awareness camps were being organised in all the villages of the district about the precautionary measures to be taken to prevent the spread of the disease.

Several teams of health workers had been sent to the remote villages to educate the people about proper hygeine and preventing the breeding of mosquitoes, the health officer added.
