Woman commits suicide over dowry harassment

Mumbai, Oct 25 (UNI) A 28-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison, following physical and mental torture by her husband and in-laws for dowry, at Nirmal Nagar in western suburb of Bandra here, police said today.

Mehjauddin, who married Mohammed Salim (32) in 2002, had returned to her parents' house with her three-year-old son following harassment at her in-laws place over dowry.

She took the extreme step on October 23 and was rushed to a local hospital, where she died yesterday, police said.

Police have registered a case of dowry-death against Salim and his family.
