Two killed in torrential rains in Kerala
Kozhikode, Oct 25 (UNI) Two persons were killed and as many injured in rain-related incidents in North Kerala as torrential rain lashing the southern State continued to wreak havoc, affecting normal life in the region.
Police said Mujeebur Rehman (28), who sustained burn injuries after lightning struck him at his native Kavannur Pandranddungal in Malappuram district, died while going to hospital this morning.
Another person V T Basheer (27) was electrocuted after he came into contact with a live wire broken due to heavy rain at Kottakkal Marakkara in the district, police said.
Two passengers were injured when a tree fell on a bus owned by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation on the National Highway at Elathur in the district.Traffic on the National Highway at Elathur was disrupted as a result.
Many roads in the city and surrounding areas were inundated due to the incessant rain lashing for the last three days.
Authorities said traffic at Thadabbittuthazham in the district was disrupted as roads in and around the locality were submerged in flood.
Meanwhile, the district administration was making arrangements for moving people from the low-lying areas such as Beypore, Panniyankara, Valayanad, Kasaba, Vengeri, Nadapuram and Kakkodi in the district affected by torrential rain.
Eight camps were set up in different localities in the district for providing accommodation and food to the affected people, sources told UNI.
A report from Kalpetta said inhabitants of Kakkathod Colony near Sulthan Bathery in Wayanad District were shifted to safer places after the locality was inundated in rain water. Reports of incessant rains were reported from Kannur and Malappuram Districts.
