Patil assures citizens of safety
Karnal, Oct 25 (UNI) Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today said the UPA goverment would ensure the safety and security of all citizens of the country in the wake of the increasing terrorist activities.
Mr Patil stated this while speaking at the closing ceremony of the All India Police Games at Madhuban near here.
He said in view of the increasing terrorist activities, the government planned to raise the strength of the central police forces to 12 lakh and that of the state police forces to 21 lakh.
He said at present the total number of the personnel of the central police forces was eight lakh while that of the state police forces 14 lakh.
Mr Patil said chief ministers of all the states had been asked to increase the strength of their police forces. In this context, the Centre would implement the proposals of various states without any delay.
Accepting the demand of Haryana Director General of Police Ranjeev Dalal for setting up the Indian Reserve Battalion for women in the state, he said the Centre would give full cooperation even if the state wanted to raise two such battalions.
