Nepalese in US urges US govt not to remove terrorist tag of Maoists

Kathmandu, Oct 24 (UNI) Nepali Jana Samparka Committee America, Nepali Congress affiliated organisation of the US, has appealed the US government not to remove the terrorist tag of Maoists of Nepal, until they do not stop their anti-democratic behaviour and violated human rights.

In a statement sent here today, the Comittee has said, ''The Maoists must stop the Young Communist League terror and return the captured properties and fulfil previously made commitments.'' The US government has not removed the Maoists, which has formed the government in Nepal, from terrorist list.

It said the Nepalese living in the US would meet the Senators and organise anti-Maoist movement in US cities.

The statement of the Nepalese committee has come at time the US government is preparing to consider the lifting of terrorist tag on the ruling party of Nepal.

Maoists was declared terrorist and the army mobilised in 2002 after the Communist rebels attacked police posts and army barrack in various parts of the Himalayan nation.

The former rebels joined the mainstream political parties after signing a peace deal to end the 240-year-old monarchy from the Himalayan nation.

The Maoists emerged as the largest political party with over 220 seats in the 601 Constituent Assembly election held in May and formed a Communist dominated government in Nepal.
