Bihar bandh starts on a peaceful note
Patna, Oct 25: Despite the withdrawal of several parties from today's 24-hour Bihar bandh, the strike evoked partial response across the state and began on a peaceful note on Saturday, Oct 25 morning. The bandh has been called by the All India Student Association (AISA), the students wing of the CPI(ML), to protest the unprovoked attacks on North Indians in Maharashtra by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and the Centre's failure to take any action against MNS chief Raj Thackeray.
While most of the shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed in the state, the number of vehicles plying on the streets were few in several areas. However, train and air services remained absolutely normal. Meanwhile, students took out processions to protest the attacks on Biharis. Shouting anti-MNS slogans, they also forced the shopkeepers in several areas to down their shutters.
As a result of huge deployment of security forces, the overall situation remained peaceful and there was no report of any untoward incident from anywhere in the state so far.
