Railways suffered 11 train fire, 92 derailments in 11 years
New Delhi, Oct 24 (UNI) Altogether 11 cases of train fire and 92 derailments have taken place in the country during the past 11 years, Minister of State for Railways R Velu told the Rajya Sabha today.
Answering during Question Hour to what steps were being taken by the Government to check recurrence of such incidents, Mr Velu said the initiatives included training and counselling staff responsible for operation for safe running, intensive training and periodical medical examination of safety category staff to ensure their suitability for the post, and priority given to rail renewal in fracture prone areas and regular inspection of track condition.
