VCK volunteers held for attempting 'rail roko'

Tiruchirapalli, Oct 23 (UNI) Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi (VCK) volunteers were taken into custody by the police when they attempted 'rail roko' at the Railway Junction here today.

In a statement, arty spokesperson Thamilarasan said the agitation was to protest the genocide on innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka by the Island Nation's army.

The agitation was also held to urge the Union government to stop providing any assistance to Sri Lanka, besides intervening in the issue to ensure the safety of the ethnic Tamils.

He claimed that over 100 VCK volunteers were held by the police when they attempted similar agitations at Lalgudi, Jeeyapuram and Manaparai Railway Stations in Tiruchirapalli district.

According to party deputy general secretary Abdul Nassar, a large number of VCK volunteers were also taken into custody by the police when they attempted 'rail roko' at Pudukkottai Railway Station, as part of the party's state-wide agitation.
