Vaiko jailed for supporting banned LTTE
Chennai, Oct 23 (UNI) Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) General Secretary Vaiko was arrested today on charges of supporting the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and secessionist movement.
He was arrested from his Annanagar residence by a team of ''Q'' Branch police, dealing with extremists and terrorist outfits, slapping charges of sedition and treason against him.
A staunch supporter of LTTE, Mr Vaiko was charged with various sections of the IPC including Sec 124-A (supporting secessionist movement).
He was produced before seventh George Town Metropolitan Magistrate Ravi, who remanded him to judicial custody till November 6.
Mr Vaiko was later taken to Puzhal prison amid tight security.
