Two Maoists killed in encounter, firearms recovered

Gaya, Oct 23 (UNI) Altogether two Maoist guerillas were killed during a fierce encounter with the police near Kamaldhara forest in the extremists-dominated south Bihar district tonight.

District Police Superintendent R Mallar Viz said acting on a tip-off, a team of state armed police surrounded the forest and asked the proscribed CPI(Maoist) guerillas, who were holding a secret meeting,to surrender.

Instead, the ultras started indiscriminate firing forcing the police to retaliate immediately, killing one Maoist cadre on the spot, while another was later found succumbed to his injury, the SP said.

Two rifles and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from the spot, she said.

Later, following the arrival of reinforcement, a massive combing operation was launched in the forest and the surrounding villages to nab other members of the extremist group who managed to escape under the cover of darkness, Ms Viz added.
