Thief shot dead in police encounter in Morena

Morena, MP, Oct 23: A thief was shot dead in a police encounter during patrolling in the wee hours in Duttpura area here, police said.

A gang of thieves consisting four-five members was trying to break a lock of a house when two police men on-duty passed from there. Alarmed on seeing the police, the gang opened gun fire and as a reaction police also started firing at them.

Mansingh Garhwal alias Billu was shot dead in the encounter while other thieves escaped under the cover of darkness.

A country-made gun and tools used for breaking locks were seized from Mansingh, police added.
