Punjabi Mahapanchayat set up in Kanpur

Kanpur, Oct 23 (UNI) Punjabi Mahapanchayat, a new body to bring the Punjabi and Sindhi communities together was formed here today.

It would be a non-political organisation, that would work to unite the Punjabi and Sindhi communities, said former Congress MLC and President of Sri Guru Singh Sabha Kuldeep Singh.

He said the new organisation, which has been formed for the welfare of the community, carries the support of all the Punjabi orgnisations.

A state-level body would also be formed shortly, he quipped.

Criticising the political parties for doing little for them and indulging in vote bank politics in prominent issues like the 1984 riots, Mr Singh said a delegation of the new Mahapanchayat would soon meet Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and hand her a memorandum, seeking reservation for the Punjabis living below the poverty line.
