'Safety filter' for Orkut by Google
Hyderabad, Oct 23: Google would introduce 'Safety Filter' on Orkut, which will automatically screen and mark unsafe, mature content that could be potentially upsetting.
In a release here today, the company spokesman said, the safety filter will be turned 'ON' by default for all users in India, and photos or text with mature content will be put behind a warning page. In addition, the content will no longer show up in search results. The reason for introducing the filter was due to the magnitude of content that gets uploaded every second and the company would make it easier for its users to control their orkut experience, he added.
This feature is in addition to the company's approach to the removal of porn, spam and impersonation, which violates the company's policies, if the orkut users bring the anomalies to its notice.
The filter protects users from the content on orkut that sometimes causes people to disagree.
