Chennai: 2,500 activists held for demo on tamil issue
Chennai, Oct 23: More than 2,500 activists of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) were arrested across Tamil Nadu for holding rail roko agitations condemning the killing of innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka by the island nation's Army.
In Chennai city, VCK General Secretary Thol Thirumavalavan and 250 others were arrested when they blocked trains at the Basin Bridge Railway Station as part of the agitation.
The agitation was also to urge the Union Government to stop providing any assistance to Sri Lanka, besides asking it to intervene in the issue to ensure the safety of the ethnic Tamils.
Similar agitations were held across the state during which VCK workers courted arrest.
