Students stage demo on Lankan Tamils issue

Puducherry, Oct 22 (UNI) Students of the Bharathiyar Palkalaikoodam here today boycotted classes and held a demonstration in front of the varsity to condemn the killing of innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka.

The students sought the intervention of the Centre to find an amicable settlment to the problems in the island nation.

Meanwhile, Agriculturists Association affiliated to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a demonstration in front of the Villianur sub-collector office, demanding immediate action from the territorial government to prevent illegal sand quarrying from the Sankarabharani river here.

Association Tamil Nadu president Vadivelu and Puducherry CPI(M) secretary V Perumal, participated in the agitation.
