Madurai: Increase in bus fares, CPM flays Govt

Madurai, Oct 22: Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation has come under CPI-M's knife for increasing bus fares in the city. At a protest demonstration held here on Tuesday, Oct 21 the speakers insisted that school students having free bus passes should be allowed to travel in all city buses.

In recent times, over 100 low floor buses had been introduced to replace worn out vehicles. Most of the buses that were operated on the minimum fare (of Rs. 2) had been withdrawn and now most of fleet was LSS, city express buses with a minimum stage fare of Rs. 2.50, Rs. 3 and Rs. 4.
