Cabinet to withdraw notification on speed governors

Bangalore, Oct 22 (UNI) Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Shobha Karandlaje today said the Cabinet has decided to withdraw the controversial notification issued in 2005 for the fixing of speed governors to vehicles compulsorily in the state.

Ms Karandlaje told newspersons after the Cabinet meet here that the order making it mandatory to commercial vehicles would cause a loss in revenue. Besides, the movement of goods would also affect the small scale industries in the state.

Karnataka Transport Minister had written three letters to the Centre for introducing a common rule for all the states on speed governors, but so far there was no reply, she said.

To a question, she said she did not rule out the contempt of court as the Supreme Court had issued an order making it mandatory to fix the speed governors to vehicles in the state.
