Police Commemoration Day observed in UP
Lucknow, Oct 21 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati praised the state police personnel for terminating dreaded dacoits like Thokia and Dadua, besides solving several recent terror strikes and announced out-of-turn promotions and cash rewards for the teams responsible on the Police Commemoration Day today.
Laying wreaths on the memorial of the police martyrs on the occasion, Ms Mayawati said the team of 12 cops involved in the encounter of Thokia would get out-of-the-turn promotions, while 14 police officials and workers would receive a cash reward of Rs three lakh each.
The CM also announced to hike the nutrition allowance by Rs 50 and doubled the monthly payment to the temporary safai karamcharis (sweepers) to Rs 600, both applied equally in the urban and the rural areas.
Till now, these safai karamcharis used to get Rs 300 monthly in the urban areas and Rs 250 in the rural areas.
Besides, Ms Mayawati said the widows and dependants of the police personnel, who died while fighting with the terrorists/naxals, would be allowed to reside in the allotted residences for free.
The CM also announced to provide Rs 20 crore for the maintenance of the police stations, chowkis and PAC battalions .
She said a total of 93 police personnel have showed an exemplary excellence by sacrificing their lives for the country in the past one year.
