Karnataka to introduce adoption scheme for Students Hostels
Mysore, Oct 21 (UNI) The Karnataka Government in an attempt to provide better facilities to the Students, has decided to allow adoption of Government run Hostels in the State by individuals or NGOs, Minister for Social Welfare D Sudhakar said today.
Addressing a press conference here, the Minister said that the Government order to this effect would be issued within a week.
Under the Scheme the government would provide necessary funds and the adoption would be for the maintenance of the Hostels including providing quality food, extra tuition to the students besides providing necessary infrastructure.
He said that the government would award special prizes to those Hostels which achieve 100 per cent pass result. The department would also plan to increase the seats in Hostels in Urban areas since there is demand. It was proposed to almost double the seats from the present 4847 in 350 Hostels in the State.
Referring to the present contract basis for the maintenance of the hostels in the state, Mr Sudhakar said that the Department has already canceled such system in six districts and same would be extended to other districts from next academic year.
He said there were 7000 posts vacant in the department and concern district officials have been asked to outsource nearly 3000 posts in respective districts.
Regretting that the department has not been receiving the two per cent tax collection to help beggars in the state from the local bodies properly. Now the department has been making efforts to collect balance amounts which runs for crores from the respective urban bodies.
Earlier the Minister inaugurated the a four-day Satellite based training programme for the group C and D Employees of the department including wardens at Nazir Sab rural development Institute here. He said nearly 14000 staff members would be provided with training in 175 centres in two phases.
