IT Policy-2008 of Union Territory of Puducherry released

Puducherry, Oct 21 (UNI) Puducherry Information Technology Minister M O H F Shajahan today released the IT Policy-2008 of the Union Territory.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the objective of the policy was to establish Puducherry, as a preferred destination for investment in IT, IT-Enabled Services, support industries by providing international quality infrastructure, ensure effective government business interface, encourage education-based economic development, create more employment opportunities, increased transparency, efficency and accountability in government operations through e-governance, among other things.

The administration propose to set up an e-governance society and the data centre of the society would be linked to all departments of the administration. Subsequently, the government would set up 50 citizen centers all over the Union Territory and all documents required for the public could be obtained at the citizen centre itself, he added.

He said all educational institutions would be computerised to promote soft skill of the students and 'finishing schools' would be set up in every colleges to ensure that students passing out were competent in all subjects, including spoken English.
