Gag order issued against Raj Thackeray
Mumbai, Oct 21 (UNI) The city police today issued a gag order against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray, barring him from making provocative speeches and holding press conferences for next two months.
The order comes barely a few months after a similar order issued against him was lifted.
Talking to UNI, Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Bharambe (zone V) said an order under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code had been served to Mr Thackeray at the time of his arrest and it was operational with immediate effect.
The order was issued by the Assistant Commissioner of Police of Dadar division, where Mr Thackeray resides.
He said, ''the order states that action can be taken against him if he addresses any public gathering or press conferences while the order is in force.'' The MNS activists on October 19 had attacked the north Indian candidates appearing for the Railway Recruitment Board exams in suburban Bandra college.
Earlier, the MNS chief had been issued with a similar order by the city police for his campaign aganist members of the north ] Indian community.
