Cane price hiked in Pondy

Puducherry, Oct 21 (UNI) The Puducherry administration has enhanced sugar cane price by Rs 25 per tonne and fixed it at Rs 1,155 for the crushing season 2007-08.

Coopertive Minister M Kandasamy told mediapersons here this followed a meeting he had with representatives of cane growers, officers of the Lingareddippalayam cooperative sugar mills here today.

He said the price of sugar had come down in the market and inspite of this cane price was enhanced to encourage the farmers.

The additional price per tonne was fixed at Rs 62. The mill would incur an additional expenditure of Rs 2.25 crore and 5,000 cane growers would benefit.
