Salem: Police open fire to stop violence

Salem, Oct 20: Clashes were reported near a Salem village on Sunday, Oct 19. Police had to open a round of fire in the air to disperse two groups of villagers who indulged in violence following a dispute over the erection of party flag of Viduthalai Siruthaigal Katchi (VCK). However, no injuries or casualties were there, said SP NM Mayilvahanam.

“Armed police pickets have been posted in the villages of Nallagoundanpatti and Saminaickenpatti where these disturbances took place. Everything is under control," he said. The trouble between the two groups in Nallagoundanpatti and Saminaickenpatti had been brewing.
