Salem: Coop needed for extra small savings
Salem, Oct 20: Women should extend greater cooperation for the promotion of small savings, community credit and microfinance, said Chinna Pillai, leader of the Madurai-based Kalanjiyam Iyakkam.
She was speaking at a programme organised to mark the first anniversary of Salem Kalanjiyam Federation established under the Dhan Foundation here on Sunday. “The habit of saving should be encouraged particularly among women. They should inculcate the habit among their family members and try to reduce unnecessary expenses," she stressed. The community credit and microfinance schemes of Kalanjiyam had provided opportunities to a large number of poor people in the State to enhance their quality of life, she pointed out.
She also wanted the members of the federation to come together and take full advantage of the programmes implemented by the State Government and the Kalanjiyam, the community banking movement, to improve their socio-economic conditions.
