Port strike called off in AP
Kakinada, Oct 20 (UNI) The two-days old strike in the Kakinada anchorage port has been called off tonight following an agreement between the workers and the Deep water port management in presence of port and police officials, besides the Cocanada chamber representatives at the meeting convened by the RDO Kishore Kumar in his chambers in the evening.
Earlier, the Port Officer Captain Krishna Mohan also held discussions with the port workers and the steel barge owners and prevailed them over the need for ending the strike.
The port steel barge workers union president V Virababu told mediapersons tonight that they were calling off the strike with immediate effect and resuming loading operations around 2200 hrs. He said the Deep water port management had agreed to entrust the total handling of fertilisers at the Deep water port to the anchorage port workers, paving the way for settlement.
