Rajouri, Oct 20: Security forces gunned down three militants near the ceasefire line in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, Oct 19.
A group of seven to eight militants tried to infiltrate into Indian territory near the Line of Control (LoC) (ceasefire line) from Pakistan administered Kashmir, officials said.
Three militants got killed after a fierce gunbattle with the security forces. The slain militants allegedly belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant outfit.
"Our security forces at the police post in Rajouri district foiled the bid of infiltration by the militants. A fierce gunbattle took place between the two and three militants got killed. We have received huge cache of arms and ammunitions including AK47," said Kamal Saini, Deputy Inspectoreneral, northern Rajouri- Poonch.
Three AK rifles, three magazines, 74 rounds, one radio set, two mobile phones, letterheads of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit were recovered from the encounter site.
An Army official also got injured in the operation.
Clashes between troops and militants have intensified in recent days in the mountainous region after militants began coming down to the plains due to the early onset of cold weather in the mountains.
