K'taka: Will Dharwad have the next IIT?
New Delhi, Oct 20: The Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Arjun Singh has assured that the Centre would consider Dharwad for setting up of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). "The Central Government has still not decided about the location for setting up of IIT. If Government decides to set-up IIT in Karnataka, then Centre would consider Dharwad," said Arjun Singh to State Minister for Major and Medium Irrigation, Basavaraj Bommai.
"Apart from being the second largest city, Dharwad has also been a hub for culture, education and agriculture in Karnataka. Around 300 acres of land has been set aside for setting up of IIT. Hence, IIT should be set-up within the acdemic year 2009-10," requested Bommai.
