Class VIII student has miraculous escape as rod pierces chin
New Delhi, Oct 20 (UNI) In a providential escape, a 12-year-old boy survived a fall from a staircase on an iron rod that pierced through his chin and came out from the upper side of the face near the eye, in Uttam Nagar area of West Delhi.
A son of blind parents and Class VIII student of the Thomson Public School, Shiv Dutt fell from the staircase while reaching to the roof of his two-storeyed school hostel building to get his clothes, said the police.
''He slipped while climbing through the wooden staircase.'' Shiv was rushed to the nearby Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where doctors performed a surgery on him to take out the rod.
Doctors, later said, no damage was done to any of his eyes, adding that his health condition was stable.
School principal Kamlesh Dutt told the media that Shiv always stood first in his class and stayed in the school hostel along with his sister Seema.
''As both his parents are blind and cannot take care of them properly, they stay here.'' Resident of Wazirabad, Shiv was admitted to the hostel three years ago.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Delhi) Sharad Aggarwal, said they have registered a case of negligence and were investigating the matter.
