Tamil issue: Maran offers to quit as MP

New Delhi, Oct 19: Grand nephew of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK supremo M Karunanidhi and former Union Minister for IT and Communications Dayanidhi Maran on Sunday, Oct 19 sought an appointment with the Tamil Nadu chief minister to present his resignation letter from Lok Sabha.

Maran said in a letter addressed to the Karunanidhi, "through media reports I came to know that during the all party meeting held in the city recently a decision was taken that if the Centre did not take any positive steps on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue within two weeks, all the MPs from Tamil Nadu would resign from their post." "Similar to some of my colleagues who have given their resignation letter as per the decision taken during the meeting, I wish to personally hand over the resignation letter to you," Maran said.

So far 14 DMK members of Lok Sabha, including seven union ministers had submitted their resignation to party chief M Karunanidhi in Chennai. The resignation letters are dated Oct 29 when the fortnight's deadline given by the DMK MPs to the Centre to halt Sri Lankan troops' offensive against LTTE expires.
