Notorious contract killer held

Gulbarga, Oct 19 (UNI) Police today arrested a notorious contract killer in Aland town of the district.

The criminal, identified a Suryakanth Varik (35), was involved in several criminal cases, including double murders at Umarga village of Sholapur district in Maharashtra, attempt to murder of Ashok Chavle, the Vice President of Aland in 2006, and a number of dacoities in Karnataka.

A police team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Kousalandra Kumar, on a tip off, raided his hideout in Aland town and nailed him.

Suryakanth was a member of the dreaded Harijan's gang. Harijan was gunned down in a police encounter a few years ago.
