Members of Tamil Film Industry take out rally on Lankan Tamil issue

Rameswaram, Oct 19 (UNI) Expressing solidarity with the Sri Lankan Tamils, members of the Tamil Film Industry took out a rally from Agneetheerthakarai in town, this afternoon.

More than 2,000 people, including prominet actors, directions technicians and artistes, affiliated to various organisations of the tinsel world, accompanied by hundreds of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees and local people participated in the rally, amid tight police security.

The rally traversing through important thoroughfares would culminate at Kizhakkadu, where a public meeting would be held this evening.

Acclaimed Directors Bharathiraja, K Bhagiyaj, Mano Bala, T Rajendar and actors Chandrasekhar, Mansoor Ali Khan, S V Sekhar, among others led the rally.

Talking to newspersons, Bharathiraja alleged that the Sri Lankan Government, which was acquiring arms from India, was unleashing violence against innocent Tamils.

He urged the Indian government to intervene into the issue and pressurise the Island nation to stop the alleged genocide against Tamils.

He hoped that the rally would draw the attention of the world community to the plight of Sri Lankan Tamils.

However, most of the popular film stars did not turn up for the rally citing preoccupation.
