Karla Terzhagi remembered

Kakinada, Oct 19 (UNI) Rich tributes were paid to Karla Terzaghi, doyen of Soil Mechanics at a function held on his birth anniversay here today.

JNTU Vice-Chancellor Allam Apparao, speaking at the one-day national seminar on 'Soil Problems in Construction Engineering' at the Kakinada chapter of Indian Geotechnical Society, said several Terzaghi's theories had opened new vistas for predicting the behaviour and assessing the performance of the soil.

It was only due to his pioneering research that soil mechanics was now recognised as an indispensable discipline in civil engineering, he added.
