Fresh violence rocks Kandhamal, one shot at

Bhubaneswar, Oct 19 (UNI) In a fresh spurt of violence in strife-torn Kandhmal, one person was shot at Laburi village under Katingia Gram panchayat in Raikia police station today.

Kandhamal Police Superintendent Praveen Kumar told UNI over phone that one Manoj Pradhan sustained bullet injuries on his leg after someone fired at him in the village.

The victims was admitted to Phulbani hospital, the SP said, adding that none had been arrested in connection with the incident.

It was not immediately known whether the attack had any link with the ongoing communal violence in the district. The incident was reported despite the night curfew being in force under the Raikia police station limits.

The authorities lifted the night curfew yesterday in four sensitive police station areas of Baliguda, Phulbani, Tumudibandh and Phiringia as no fresh violence was reported during the last fortnight.

However, night curfew was in force in the remaining five other police stations, including Tikabali, K Nuagaon, Raikia and G Udayagiri, as a precautionary measures.
