Former Congress MP passes away

Rourkela, Oct 19 (UNI) Former Congress Parliament member Christopher Ekka died in a private nursing home here today. He was 65.

Mr Ekka was admitted to the hospital recently following respiratory problems.

Mr Ekka was a Parliament member from 1980 to 1984 and prior to that represented the Rajgangpur Assembly constituency from 1974 to 1977.

Hospital sources here said his body was kept in the Ispat General Hospital morgue and would be handed over to his family members tomorrow.

Former Union Minister Dillip Roy and former Chairman of the Rourkela Municiplaity Ramesh Chandra Bal expressed their deep shock and grief over the death of Mr Ekka.

Sources said the body would be taken to his native village Kusumdihi near Rajgangpur tomorrow for the last rites.

Mr Ekka is survived by two sons.
