Private transport operators call bandh against govt. ruling
Howrah, Oct 18 (UNI) Transport services in the district were largely affected today following a bandh by private operators here.
They observed the bandh to protest a decision of the state government to book transport owners under IPC 304 for accidents.
As private transport is the lifeline of the daily commuters, they faced a harrowing time.
Speaking to UNI, Inter-district Bus and Mini-Bus Operator Unions General Secretary Rahul Chatterjee said the ruling was 'unjustified and discriminatory' as the owners were not involved in the road mishaps.
''We had warned about the strike yesterday,'' he added.
Several long route buses were also stranded on the bypass, causing inconvenience to passengers.
