Illicit liquor unit busted in Puducherry

Puducherry, Oct 18: Police today busted an illicit liquor manufacturing unit and arrested six people in this connection.

On a tip-off, a police team raided a house in Koonichampet Colony and found the illicit liquor manufacturing unit.

Police seized 50 litres of rectified spirit, machinery used for filling liquor and sealing bottles, labels and empty bottles worth Rs 30 lakh.

Three motorcycles were also seized. All the six occupants of the house were also arrested.

The modus operandi of the gang was to mix colour with the rectified spirit and fill it in bottles pasted with labels of prominent liquor brands before selling them in Tamil Nadu, police here said.

The accused and the property were handed over to the Excise Police for further investigation.
