HP High Court gets "Mediation Centre"

Shimla, Oct 18 (UNI) Mediation Mechanism had been successfully used worldover as a speedy and cheaper alternative for resolving various conflicts, Supreme court judge Justice S.B. Sinha, said after inaugurating ''Mediation Centre'' in HP High Court here today.

Stressing that the changed global economic scenario required a mediation expert to quickly solve disputes, Justice Sinha said that out of many alternative dispute redressal mechanisms like Arbitration, Councilliation, Lok Adalats and Judicial Settlements, the mediation was said to be the best.

He said that the concept of introducing mobile media centres for hilly state such as Himachal was under consideration as it would be useful in resolving the disputes at grassroot level.

He said that basic training would be provided to these mobile mediators and they would be made well conversed with local dialect, tradition, customs and conventions.

Though HP High court has 54000 cases whereas subordinate courts had 1.42 lakh cases, which was less than the national average, still mediation centre could help in reducing pendency, he said.

In Delhi, the success rate of such centres was 60-70 per cent and Karnatka had shown equal response, he said.
