New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) After witnessing a flurry of activities and participation of an eclectic mix of designers for five days, curtains went down on the inaugural edition of the Delhi Fashion Week (DFW) , a fashion jamboree which initially gave out some strong signals of turning out to be a damp squib, but gained steam as the fashion fiesta started unfolding, with the showcasing of designer Anamika Khanna's collection.

Her collection for DFW 2009 deciphere her idea of easy to wear forms in a rebellious comportment followed by rhythmic distortions and draping deconstructions.

She used a lot of wash out tones of ivories, brick reds and lotus pink on the fabrics of pure silks, muslins, chiffons and cottons.

The bevy brings to the fore a play of fabric development techniques, texturising, cording effect, intricate zardozi work followed by flattened embellishments. She told UNI, ''My fabrics and textures are inspired from the chintz effect.'' Anamika added: ''My collection clearly adheres to the aesthetics of those who do what they like in their own way. They are bold and ready to experiment with the current style avowal and confident enough to face the mirror with elan.'' Model Mileane was chosen the face of the DFW and Malvika the up-and-coming face.

With the DFW, the national capital saw the birth of a new fashion body as a few resentful designers from the Fashion Design Council of India, led by bigwigs Tarun Tahiliani, Rohit Bal and Meera and Muzaffar Ali, formed the Fashion Foundation of India to endorse the DFW.

The fashion spectacle, which began with the display of the collection of designer Rajvi Mohan, ran nearly parallel to the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, which began here on October 15.

It showcased the talent of 35 designers as compared to 80 for the latter.

The designers included top-notch ones and it even gave a chance to up-and-coming fashionistas, which confirmed the participation of 160 buyers, scotching speculation of it being a non-starter.

The shows by Tarun and Rohit stole the limelight during the fashion carnival, giving the IFW some moments of anxiety of being paling in the shadow, but which was not to be.
