Curfew continued for 9th day in riot-torn town

Adilabad, Oct 18 (UNI) The curfew clamped in the wake of communal clashes during an immersion procession on October 10 in Bhainsa town of Andhra Pradesh continued for the ninth day today.

Police organised a peace march in which leaders of various faiths and political parties, including MPs and MLAs, participated to instill confidence in both the majority and minority communities in the grip of fear following the clashes.

Two units of Rapid Action Force (RAF), besides local police were present in strength in the narrow lanes and bylanes to maintain peace in the riot-torn town.

''The situation is peaceful'', police said, adding a decision on lifting the curfew would be taken in the next few days.

The authorities relaxed the curfew for three-and-half hours from 1000 hrs to enable people to purchase essential commodities, including milk, vegetables and medicines.
