Coimbatore chefs take out rally to promote organic food
Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), Oct 18 : Catering students in Coimbatore District of Tamil Nadu took out a rally on Saturday to promote awareness about organic food.
The rally was organised by a city hotel to mark the International Chef Day on October 20.
"As part of International Chef Day we are trying to create awareness about organic food, as people are not eating organic foods and only eating junk food. A chef plays a vital part in the hotel industry to bring out good food habits and this is the right time to introduce organic food awareness," said Jayachandran, the organiser.
The rally saw the participation of scores of budding chefs marching on the streets with placards calling for switching over to organic foods.
"Most people understand the importance of organic food and its uses. This rally is a medium to promote the art of cooking and the value of the organic food," said Asha, a catering student.
Organic foods are grown without the use of artificial fertilizers and are processed without ionizing radiation or food additives.
