Cane purchase prices hiked in UP

Lucknow, Oct 18 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government today hiked the purchase price of common variety of cane for crushing season 2008-09 from Rs 125 per quintal to Rs 140 per quintal.

For early variety, the new purchase rate would be Rs 145 per quital, thus, having a rise of Rs 15 per quintal, state Chief Minister Mayawati announced here.

A decision to this effect was taken at the State cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister. She claimed it was the first time that the State Government had employed a hike of Rs 15 per quintal.
