Project to protect marine bio-diversity in Gujarat coasts

Gandhinagar, Oct 17 (UNI) Gujarat government will effectively implement world bank-aided Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) project to ensure balanced and sustained development of the coastal areas of the state.

Gujarat Ecology Commission has organised a two-day workshop starting today on the need for training in effective implementaion of the project here.

Speaking at the workshop, S K Nanda, principal secretary, forest and ecology department, said Gujarat coast provides an ideal habitat to the marine bio-diversity.

The Rs 215-cr project is being implemented to ensure that the industrialisation of the coastal area does not harm marine bio-diversity and the eco-system is maintained.

Under the project, Gujarat will get financial assistance to protect the marine bio-diversity and maintain the eco-system of the coastal zone including the Gulf of Kutch.
