Patriarch of Antioch arrives on two-week visit to Kerala

Kochi, Oct 17 (UNI) Patriarch of Antioch Ignatius Zakka-I arrived here today on a two-week visit to Kerala.

He was received at the Nedumbassery airport by Catholicos Baselios Thomas-I and other Metropolitans of the Jacobite Syrian Church.

Former Ministers P P Thankachan, T M Jacob and T U Kuruvilla, Mr K Babu, MLA, and Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Benny Behanan were also present at the airport to welcome the supreme head of the Jacobite Syrian Church.

The Patriarch was accompanied by Metropolitan Mathiyas Mar Philizinos (Damascus), Archbishops Augen Mar Cleemis (California) and Daniel Mar Cleemis (Beirut), three Rambans and two nuns.

Hundreds of faithfuls drawn from various dioceses of the Church cheered the Patriarch who is visiting the state for the fourth time.

Talking to mediapersons he said his visit would not hurt anybody or the Church, but only bolster communal harmony in the state which is known for the peaceful co-existence of several communities.

Later, he left for Puthencruz, headquarters of the Jacobite Syrian Church, in a motorcade.
