Nuke, terror issues haunt RS, House adjourned till Monday

New Delhi, Oct 17 (UNI) Rajya Sabha was today adjourned till Monday after the Left Parties and the opposition BJP disrupted the proceedings over separate issues of Indo-US nuclear deal and terrorism.

This was the second adjournment today, on the first day of the winter session.

Earlier, the House was adjourned at 1130 Hrs for 30 minutes after the Left parties created a ruckus over communal attacks in Orissa and Karnataka.

As soon as the House re-assembled at 1200 hrs, Chairman Hamid Ansari called for some papers to be laid on the table.

The House functioned normally for 15 minutes. However, when the Chairman called for Special Mentions, Left and BJP members were on their feet.

The Left Parties, led by Ms Brinda Karat, wanted a privilege motion against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for not taking the House into confidence at the time of the final signing of the 123 agreement with the US.

The Left Parties said the Prime Minister had, at the time of the Confidence Motion in July on the Nuclear issue, assured the House that he would go to the US only for discussions and would come back to the House before the final signing.

However, he had chosen to conclude the deal when the House was not in session.

Dr Murli Manohar Joshi and S S Ahluwalia (both BJP) were on their feet demanding that the House take up the matter of terrorism.

Dr Joshi said terrorism was increasing with each passing day and the House could not afford to ignore the issue.

Mr Rudraprasad Pani trooped into the well of House shouting slogans that the centre would not be allowed to impose Article 356 of the Constition on any state.

The slogal shouting continued for agout 15 minutes after which the Chairman adjourned the House till Monday.
