Nazeem demands Pondy Govt resolution on SL Tamils issue
Puducherry, Oct 17 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition A M H Nazeem today took strong exception to the failure of the Puducherry administration to condemn the killing of innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Talking to newspersons here,Mr Nazeem demanded that a government resolution condemning the genocide and seeking the intervention of the Union Government be adopted in the winter session of the Territorial Assembly beginning on October 20.
He said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had convened an all-party meeting to condemn the killing.
A resolution that all the DMK Members of Parliament would resign was adopted and telegrams sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking his intervention and formation of human chain were held. However, the Puducherry administration did nothing in this regard which was ''painful,'' he added.
Stating that he had forwarded an adjournment motion to discuss the Sri Lankan Tamils issue in the Assembly, Mr Nazeem said the Speaker should admit it and allow the members of all parties to have a debate and a government resolution be adopted on the issue.
