Knowledge economy will redesign the world: Dr Pitroda

Ahmedabad, Oct 17 (UNI) Knowledge will be the key driver of economy in the days and years to come and will be instrumental in redesigning the world by ushering in rapid progress, Chairman of the National Knowledge Commission and world renowned technocrat Dr Sam Pitroda opined.

Speaking on ''Moving to Knowledge Economy'' at a meeting organized by the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry here yesterday, he said, ''In our march towards knowledge economy, we will have to forget the present western parameters, calculations and values and develop love and concern for all.'' Mr Pitroda said, ''As a result of tremendous development of technology, knowledge is spreading fast in the world. This has changed the perceptions of people and increased their aspirations.

This calls for combined effort of all to remove disparity of income, literacy and damage to environment. We will have to try to solve the problems of the poorest of the poor and provide them with education, access to health facilities and better standard of life.'' Knowledge economy will create many opportunities for the people and under the impact of knowledge economy, the world will change by 2050, he said.

Referring to the present global financial crisis, he said people all over the world have suffered a lot in view of the crisis and said more efforts of various countries' banks and financial institutions will not be able to re-establish the status quo.

However, he said this crisis is an opportunity to create new world of equality and new values.

He said there is an urgent need for the world to follow the Gandhian teaching of simplicity, self reliance, trust and sacrifice, adding that he himself thinks about Gandhiji when in crisis. We will require a new leadership following the Gandhian ideas and values of cooperation and collaboration, he opined.
